Letter #4
I have been so happy this week with all the interactions with the people who are coming and with my fellow missionaries. It has been a marvelous opportunity and I am so thankful for it everyday.
So I was reading a little book that the Myers had for one of their anniversaries. It just had some pictures and their "story" of meeting and marriage and stuff like that. I saw that Elder Myers was born the same year as dad, I thought, oh cool. Then I saw that he grew up in Santa Monica..... I thought.... hmmm, I wonder if he knows anyone. I told him that dad grew up in Santa Monica and he said to me, "Keith Jex?" I was in shock as I told him that was my dad! Sister Myers said that she has heard that name many times, but has never met dad. I was so excited...... I gave him your phone number, and surprise, I was on the other end while you were talking to him. he put it on speaker phone so I could hear your voice. I might have teared up a bit, but it made my day so great!
So this week was our first full week of performances. Crazy! You would think that this town was full of people by now, but not quite yet.... I expect we will get there soon. :)
monday was memorial day. We did a special performance for a dedication of some sort of building.... i don't really remember.... But the rest of the day was raining so we had to go inside. We performed in the Cultural Hall and the Sunset is in the Vistors Center.
Tuesday- was sunny so we went out on the wagon. But at Lunch, a big white envelope was delivered to my companion. We went to the Seventies Hall to open it. She is going to serve in the Argentina Nequen mission. It was such an exciting night for her. Also, two other sisters in the band got their mission calls yesterday and we will be going over to the Seventies Hall tonight so they can open them!!! SO COOL, huh??
Wed- TEMPLE DAY! the other 3 endowed sisters gave up our shopping time to go do a session in the temple. It was amazing as always. Sister Myers went with us. Her and Elder Myers served in Nauvoo a few years ago as Temple Missionaries so she is very smart. I have come to really love the Myers. Even before I found out about the connection. I knew there was a reason I loved them so much..... because my dad and elder myers were buddies! hahahaha :) Wed was also our very first day in the sites. I was able to work in the Heber C. Kimball home. And I got to teach about the Hurrah for Israel story. Hey, am I related to him?? I loved doing it and I just barely found out I will be in the Lucy Mack Smith home this wed.
Thurs- more rain.
Fri- one of the elders in our group turned 18 today! He is probably the only elder who isn't actually an elder just yet. hahaha fri morning we were provided breakfast for the new incoming missionaries (aka us) and the ones that are leaving. They only do this once a month. It was so touching.
Sat- we were outside. YAY! It was beautiful and cool. Elder Brague said by this time last year it was about 100 degrees. YIKES! i am glad I am here this year.... :)
all the stage sisters are getting super sick, but thankfully, none of the band sisters have yet. Just keep us in your prayers as we strive to stay healthy!
Love you guys very much.
Sister Jex
